About 15 years ago, for example, one of our clients made an offer on a home in the Mount Vernon area of Fairfax County. Due to the high water table it had a crawl space as opposed to a basement.
One of the crawl space screens had broken out years before and the crawl space had become home to a colony of black snakes, The other screened vents had been closed and the trapped moisture seriously damaged the floor joists to the degree they were structurally unsafe. I have no idea what it cost the seller to make the repairs, because my buying client "walked". I do know it cost a lot more than the cost of a replacement crawl space vent.
Consider the two antique Ford 8N tractors. One sits in a field rusting while the other was proudly on display at the Prince William County Fair.The only thing distinguishing the two is TLC

WHY YOU ASK? Woodbridge is a geographic location in Prince William County. It's boundaries are determined by 3 ZIP codes - 22191, 22192 and 22193
Here in the Commonwealth of Virginia if you live in a county (that's the vast majority of us) all of your services are provided by the county. That includes schools, public safety, water and sewer, courts, libraries, hospitals etc. The elected officials of the county are Supervisors and one of those folks is the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors. The day-to-day business of managing county agencies falls to the County Executive who serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors. This is also true of the police chief, fire chief, and school superintendent. The sheriff is elected as is the clerk of court. Therefore, you only pay one tax - your real estate tax. You do pay a water and sewer bill since that is a function of your personal usage. Woodbridge gets along quite nicely without a mayor.
