Auto Train - The Relaxing "Drive" To Florida

Car In Florida

The trip starts every day at 4:00 PM when the Auto Train departs from the Lorton Auto Train Terminal on a non-stop trip to Florida. A location outside Washington was necessary since the auto carriers will not fit in the Washington, DC railway tunnels. The service has been operating at this location since 1971.

From the time you turn your car over to the attendant, enter the terminal, board the train to your assigned seat and the deisel locomotive pulls away from the station the sense of anticipation escalates.

You know your car, van, motorcycle, SUV, small boat, jet ski or other recreational vehicles are tucked safely away in the auto carriers that are part of the train assembly.

Meanwhile, you can sit back in your coach seat, bedroom or roomette, relax, read, enjoy the scenery, visit with friends or other passengers in the Lounge Car, watch a movie or "just plain do nothing". Special accommodations can be made for families with small children or passengers with special needs.

Meals are included in the price of all Auto Train tickets. A freshly prepared dinner is served including regional wines, vegetarian dishes or special meals for the kids.

In the morning a complimentary continental breakfast is served. In 17 and one half hours you will arrive in Sanford, Florida near Orlando - you and your car , like you, will be refreshed and ready to tour sunny Florida.

Lake Ridge Has 5 Pools And a Sprayground, But

  • Lake Ridge Park and Marina where you can rent paddle boats, kayaks and row boats, fish, play miniature golf and have a picnic is in Lake Ridge
  • Leesylvania State Park with numerous educational programs and picnic facilities is approximately 30 minutes

As the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority web site says, "Pirate's Cove is a pirate-themed family waterpark loaded with fun features for your campers and kids. The new features include a 24-foot high play structure with a 300-gallon dumping bucket, water slides, waterfalls and squirters. Buccaneer Beach is a large sand play area where kids can dig for buried treasure. And watch out for pirates lurking about - they could almost be real. Everyone is guaranteed a lot of pirate fun!"
  • WaterWorksWaterPark in Dale City has several pools, fountains, slides and an expansive beach area.
  • Veterans Park on Featherstone Road features a Skateboard Facility

All of that in addition to the 5 Lake Ridge pools and Sprayground is quite a package to keep the kids from being bored.. We have used our personal familiarity with the community to develop the All About Lake Ridge website below that includes comprehensive information about commuting, schools, shopping and recreation. There is also a dedicated connection to our local MLS that shows all currently available Lake Ridge Homes and provides the ability to search for homes beyond Lake Ridge without registration.

A Weekend Getaway Is Minutes Away At Pohick Bay

Pohick Bay Regional Park Entrance

Very few people are aware of the fact there is close-in cabin camping in Northern Virginia.

Pohick Bay Regional Park has excellent facilities. The cabins have electricity, air conditioning, heat and two rooms. As can be seen in the photo below the room at the back of the cabin has a double bed and a set of bunk beds. The front room has a futon, table, two chairs and a microwave. Outside is a front porch with a swing, outside grill, fire pit and a picnic table. Although there is no bathroom in the cabins, a bathhouse is a short walk on a trail. You must bring your own bedding.

Pohick Bay Cabins

Pohick Bay Regional Park is less than a 15 minute drive once you leave the Woodbridge area and cross over the Occoquan River on US1. Turn right at the first light (Gunston Road) and continue straight until you see the park entrance on your left.

OK - you're all set up in your cabin. Now what?

  • Boating Rental of paddle, jon or sail boats
  • Disk Golf I've never played it, but it looks like the kind of golf I could master
  • Fishing
  • Launch your own boat
  • Play 18 holes of golf
  • Miniature golf
  • Trails
  • PIRATES COVE As the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority web site says, "Pirate's Cove is a pirate-themed family waterpark loaded with fun features for your campers and kids.

I doubt seriously if you'll find time to do everything in a weekend, but its' proximity makes a "do over" very simple.

US Navy Country Current Band at Connaughton Plaza - Saturday June 20, 2009

We are fortunate to live in Prince William County when you realize many of our tax dollars are used to provide county residents with a broad range of cultural activities. Connaughton Plaza at the County Center on the Prince William Parkway is home to many outdoor events during the summer months. For a full schedule of events see Connaughton Plaza

Take a close look at the photo of the plaza - there are no seats. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, non-alcoholic beverages and picnic basket. Yes, you can set up on the grassy areas.

If A Home In Springfield, VA Is Less Than 33 Years Old

it wasn't there when my husband and I started in the real estate business.  We are proud to have participated in the growth of the Springfield, Virginia real estate market.

Some of the subdivisions where Springfield, Virginia homes less than 33 years old can be found are

Why does this matter?  There was no

  • Franconia-Springfield Metrorail Station
  • Fairfax County Parkway
  • Fairfax County Connector Bus System

We sold new homes in these subdivisions to members of the military and civilians that commuted to the Pentagon, Washington, DC, Fort Belvoir, Naval Research Laboratory, Andrews AFB and Bolling AFB, because we believed in the future viability of Springfield as a sound real estate investment long before improved transportation facilities became available.

We have been part of the two most important aspects of development in Springfield

  • Changes in housing styles and community development
  • Changes in transportation and commuting patterns

I suppose there are those who will say those years of experience don't matter, but that special experience laid the groundwork for us to consider ourselves "Springfield Virginia Real Estate Experts"  Try our
