Tomb Of The UnKnown Soldier of the American Revolution

This tomb is in the early 18th century cemetery at the rear of the Old Presbyterian Metting House in Olde Towne Alexandria, VA. I was both unable and unwilling to enter the site to photograph the inscription on top of the statuary.   Dr Craik, first Surgeon General of the US Army and George Washington's personal physician is also interred in this cemetery

COMMUTING

  • Express bus service to the Pentagon and Washington, DC is available within Lake Ridge and at the entrance to Lake Ridge in the VDOT Commuter Lot
  • Carpools usually meet at the VDOT Commuter Lot at the entrance to Lake Ridge - see Omnimatch for more specific details
  • Slugging (some erroneously call it hitching a ride which it is) is a result of the need to use HOV lanes on the I-95 as much as possible. Commuters form a line at a designated Slug Line Stop in Lake Ridge - the VDOT Commuter at the Lake Ridge entrance. For example, a driver will pull up headed for the Pentagon, but needs one more passenger to qualify for HOV-3. The first person in line going to the Pentagon will join the others in the car and away they go. It's free commuting for the slugger and gives the driver availability to HOV lanes on I-95 - win win!!
  • Train The Virginia Railway Express Woodbridge Station with rail service to Springfield, Crystal City and Union Station in Washington, DC is approximately a 20 minute drive from Lake Ridge in the morning rush hour. At Springfield you can switch to Metrorail that gives you access to the entire National Capital Area subway system.

Eastern Prince William County VA Relocation Guide

Prince William County VA Moving Van

People relocating to a new area face numerous challenges.  However, there are four items that are of primary importance - it matters not whether you are married or single.  All four of them impact on the ease in which a home will resell.

  • TRANSPORTATION
  • SCHOOLS
  • SHOPPING
  • RECREATION

My husband and I have developed the  most comprehensive real estate relocation guide possible for Eastern Prince William County VA.  It was developed using our

  • Knowledge gained as 26 year Eastern Prince William County residents
  • Experience acquired during our 33 year career as real estate brokers

TRANSPORTATION    Eastern Prince William County can brag about its' excellent commuting facilities. This site links to schedules for rail and bus as well as carpool and alternate transportation possibilities.  People who commute to the Pentagon, Fort Belvoir and all major National Capital Area work centers will readily understand the area's popularity with commuters

SCHOOLS  It is not necessary to have children to appreciate the value of a viable school system when it comes time to resell a home.  We have raised our familiy in the Prince William County School system and can attest to its' "value added" component to a home purchase.  This site links to all aspects of the instructional capability of the school system

SHOPPING  It makes no difference whether you need a quart of milk or a complete household of furniture you are within 15 minutes or less of the most complete shopping facilities in Northern Virginia.  The development of the area surrounding Potomac Mills (a major East Cost discount mall) has spawned major retail development in the center of Eastern Prince William County.  This site provides valuable shopping information

RECREATION  When your workday or workweek is done you will soon realize Eastern Prince William County has somethig for every recreational taste.  It is all convenient and reasonably priced and you will find links to

  • Boating
  • Fishing
  • Camping
  • Baseball
  • Theatre
  • Dining
  • Historical sites
  • Bicycling
  • Hiking
  • Bird Watching
  • Swimming
  • Running
  • Free concerts
  • And on and on and on

How To Modify A Home Picture To Improve "Curb Appeal"

When I say improve curb appeal I do not mean

  • Altering featutres of the home or
  • Adding and deleting plants, trees, high tension lines or anything else that would be deceptive.

However, I take photos on cloudy or rainy days - my schedule does not give me the luxury to only take photos of homes on sunny days with a beautiful blue sky filled with clouds.  The photo below is a prime example - the row of town homes appears as bleak as the day the photo was taken.  They certainly will not enhance the appearance of an MLS entry or a blog about the subdivision

Gray Sky Town Homes

Take a look at the photo below.  I did not make any enhancements to the photo above except to add blue sky and clouds that we have on file  Everything other than the sky is exactly the same as it was in the photo above.  I didn't even edit out the newspaper on the right hand side of the photo

Is it unethical?  Absolutely not

  • Mother Nature would have come by in a day or two to add the blue sky and clouds.
  • I just made it look as though she had already been there before I took the photo.
  • There is no place in the US that only has gray skies

I believe more people would be attracted to the lower photo as opposed to the original photo above.  The simple addition of blue sky even had a positive effect on the other colors in the photo.

We have the option to submit our own photos to our MLS.  Some of them look like the one above.  I prefer to take my own photos and have "blue skies smiling at me".

The good news is that it took less than 10 minutes with four simple steps to make the change.

Blue Skies Over Town Homes

Although there any number of photo editing software programs available we find Adobe Photoshop Ekemernts 7 the most user friendly for us.  The four steps we use can be found in "The Photoshop Elements 7 Book" by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski.  All of the photo editing ideas in the book are far simpler than the instructions that accompany the sotware.

Step One:

Open a photo that needs the addition of a blue sky.

Step Two:

Type W to

  • select the Magic Wand Tool
  • Click in the area that needs blue sky and release - the tool will do the rest selecting the entire gray area.
  • Do nothing further with the photo

Step Three:

  • Open a stored blue sky photo
  • Under Select choose All
  • Under Edit choose Copy
  • Close out of the blue sky photo

Step4:

  • Since you closed out the blue sky photo the original photo will reappear
  • On the Layer palette choose New
  • Go to Edit and choose Paste into Selection
  • Press Ctrl-D to Deselect

Voila!!!!  Just go to File and Save As
