Who is Mary Beth Michos you ask?  She was Prince William County Fire Chief for almost 13 years before retiring in September.  Chief Michos has received both national and international acclaim for the work she has done in leadership training and professionalism for our county fire department and others throughout the country as well as improving the quality and quantity of the county's fire and rescue equipment. 

Fortunately, her talents will not fade away - she has just been named Deputy Executive Director of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.  Mary Beth is an active Rotarian and is actively involved with the American Red Cross and American Heart Association. 

Arthur and I are fortunate to know her as a friend and fellow Rotarian.  We were particularly pleased and honored at being invited to attend her retirement celebration.

Kingstowne is almost equidistant between the Franconia-Springfield metro station and the Van Dorn Metro station. It is approximately 10 minutes to the Capital Beltway at I-495 and approximately 15 minutes to the Springfield Interchange.  The VRE station is located at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station and you can access the Fairfax County Parkway in about 5 minutes.

Kingstowne is one of the most convenient and most popular planned communities in Fairfax County.

One of the things my husband and I have enjoyed in our 25 years in Lake Ridge is the availability of recreational facilities and options.  If a Lake Ridge or Prince William County home is in your plans please CONTACT ME.  The Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation manages all of the facilities in Lake Ridge.

Prince William County has an enviable park system and we in Lake Ridge are fortunate to have the golf and marina on the shores of the 11 mile long Occoquan Reservoir.  You can rent boats or launch your own.  The marina is also used by our high schools to store their rowing shells since they practice on the reservoir. There are picnic tables and, of cousre, the golf course.

On Labor Day the Lake Ridge outdoor pools close down for the winter.  However, Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center is at the west end of Lake Ridge and is part of the Prince William County Park System.  The building houses an indoor Olympic size swimming pool, exercise room, racquetball courts and classrooms for fitness training programs.

The story of Annandale is the story of Hometown America.  It sits astride the Capital Beltway and is approximately midway between both Potomac River crossings from Virginia to Maryland.  It has no major office complexes and, like the rest of Northern Virginia and Fairfax County, it has no industrial base.  Annandale is primarily a residential suburb of Washington, D.C.

Annandale is an area within Fairfax County.  Fairfax County is organized under the Urban County Executive form of government as prescribed under Virginia law.  Under the provisions of that law if you live in a county all of your services are provided by the county.  That includes schools, public safety, water and sewer, courts, libraries, hospitals etc.  The elected officials of the county are Supervisors and one of those folks is the Chairman of the Board of Supervisors.  The day-to-day business of managing county agencies falls to the County Executive who serves at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors.  This is also true of the police chief, fire chief, and school superintendent.  The sheriff is elected as is the clerk of court.  Therefore, you only pay one tax - your real estate tax.  You do pay a water and sewer bill since that is a function of your personal usage.

Although there is no Metrorail service in Annandale there is Metrobus service that connects to Metrorail in Arlington County.

The history of Annandale can be traced back to the pre-Revolutionary period when, in 1685, an Englishman by the name of William Fitzhugh purchased 24,000 acres and converted it into one of the largest tobacco plantations in Northern Virginia.  The plantation was named Ravensworth - a name that survives to this day in Annandale. For six generations, members of the Fitzhugh family farmed Ravensworth, slowly selling off portions of the land.
